Two penguin’s names Roy and Silo live together in New York’s Central Park Zoo. The two penguins start displaying typical penguin couple behavior therefore the zoo workers give them an egg to hatch and care for. When the egg hatches, the zoo workers name the new baby penguin Tango.

Since the book was published in 2005, it has been one of the most controversial children’s books. The American Library Association reported that this book was the most challenged book in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010. The book dropped to second place in 2009 but still remained on this list.
Several schools such as Shiloh Elementary School in Shiloh, Illinois require parents to sign a permission form in order for their children to check out the book. Several other schools such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg School in North Carolina ordered to remove the book from their library. Several other schools and parents have asked for this book to be removed in their school libraries as well.
